This is so awesome, you guys... [15 Sep 2005|06:53pm]

[ mood | thankful ]

I'm so excited now! I never thought my little idea for a convention would ever get off the ground--now everything seems to be falling into place!
It really feels like we're moving forward so much, and it makes me happy beyond words...I want to thank Ashe! My co-conspirator of doom for not only having the guts to IM, but for helping out so much with this convention so far.

I don't think Padnos hall is going to be a possiblity for us, but I'm looking hard for a back up plan.

BUT! I think it's decided that the convention will take place on Saturday, August 12th of 2006!

Also, we had the idea of giving our volunteers a little present...any takers? *smiles* Thank you guys so much for your interest, your input and your support! I heart you all!

Interest is rising! [11 Sep 2005|09:59pm]

[ mood | excited ]

People are interested!

As of right now, there is no financial budget for this convention. The more things we could get free the better! At the beginning of next year, I think I'll start to contact possible sponsors/vendors as well as the three guests-The Leaky Cauldron, HP Lexicon and, of course, Mugglenet.

The thing I really need right now is confirmed helpers! I'm new at this whole convention thing as I'm sure everyone is, but I will take any help I can get!

I'm still interested in someone drawing something for a logo! I'll take submissions anytime.

If you have an idea of what you're interested in doing as far as helping, let me know! If you just want to give your input, that's fine too-but I really need actual planners!

Thanks again fore the interest!

I am looking for a female roommate for my 2 bed apartment on Porter st, right by 28th & burlingame. Rent is $245 and $50 (half of) cable/internet bill. It is a 12 month lease and I need someone by Oct 14th hopefully, but earlier is ok your room is ready anytime. You would have your own room, and access to kitchen, living room, bathroom, parking, and trash pick up, and laundry facility! It is close to both malls! 13 minutes away from GRCC. I have a ferret (he doesn’t bite or smell) and I smoke but I will smoke outside only if you would like. Please call my cell: 616-617-8238 or email me at FerretJ8@aol.com. Thanks so much for reading this!

Michigan 2006 [10 Sep 2005|02:54am]

[ mood | hopeful ]

Is anyone still interested in helping or even attending a possible convention in Michigan next fall? I just need to know whether or not I'm alone on this or not! And whether or not contacting the people about the convention hall is something I need to do right away.

Thanks again!

Meetup group [26 Aug 2005|03:06pm]

Hi. I hope this is alright to post, but I thought other Michigan Harry Potter fans in the area might be interested. There is an Ann Arbor Harry Potter meetup group that I have been a member of for a little while, but that hadn't really done anything. There is someone that has agreed to be an organizer for the group now, and we had the first meetup on Wednesday the 24th. Not a big turnout, but then there are only 16 members of the group. There were only 5 of us there, but the company was very entertaining. I enjoyed the evening thoroughly.

I just thought that some other members of this community might be interested in joining. To be a regular member is free. The only person that has to pay is the organizer and we all decided to help him by paying a couple of dollars a month, or less depending on how many members. (It's $20 per month and he's fresh out of college and currently looking for a job, so I figure his finances are probably a little tight) This is NOT a requirement to attend a meeting. Those of us that were there just thought it would be nice to help him out since he is willing to put in his time to organize. So anyone that might be interested can click on this link (that hopefully will work ) http://harrypotter.meetup.com/27/ If it doesn't work just go to meetup.com and type in harry potter and you should be able to find the group.

I just thought that since we have 2 smallish groups, that maybe we could combine a little to have a larger group for a monthly meeting. Hopefully, I'll get to meet some of you in person next month. =)

Tomorrow's the day! [15 Aug 2005|02:00pm]

[ mood | excited ]

Here I am, once again to talk about Cedar Point. I looked back on my first few posts and got responses of interest from the following people:

-des_nuts ( Who I believe is going anyway)

If you are still interested in going, or are going and want to meet up, my friend and I are planning on getting there around 12:30/1:00ish, so let me know. You can reply back here or send me an email at elkenarmo@yahoo.com.

Sorry to be a bother!

[ mood | anxious ]

Alright, I figured because it was closer to the date, I should ask again---

Is anyone still interested in meeting up at Cedar Point on August 16th?

---as a side note, is anyone still interested in helping with the 2006 HP convention?---

Sorry to be annoying! I'm just curious!

No takers? [31 Jul 2005|12:52pm]

[ mood | curious ]

I was just wondering if people changed their minds about the upcoming Cedar Point trip on August 16th. I'm trying to get a head count for how many people are planning on attending so that we know we won't leave anyone behind and I didn't get a response last time. (People have looked at my posts on Mugglenet's COS, but no one really has replied) Here's the information once again:

Where: Cedar Point Amusement Park (front gates)
What: Meeting of Harry Potter fans
When: August 16th at 12 o'clock
Why: To meet new friend/fans and have fun

Ticket cost: 44.95 at the door and 34.95 at either LMCU or Meijer

The "meeting" is open to anyone who is interested!

Sorry to be a bother! Thank you so much!

The Witching Hour Transportation [29 Jul 2005|08:14pm]

[ mood | curious ]

themostepotente and I are looking for any other Michiganders that are going to The Witching Hour in Salem, Massachusetts this October. We'll be leaving mid-morning on Wednesday October 5 and returning after the conference ends on Monday Oct 10th. We've got two seats open for carpooling, which with the price of gas these days is really important for saving money. I'm located in Ann Arbor, and she's near Detroit, so either location for meeting up would work well.

The vehicle we'll be taking is very comfortable for four people, and fairly comfortable for five. Plenty of trunk space, so no worries for bringing things with you. It's got a cd player, so plenty of music options. We listen mostly to various types of rock music, but we're open to other genres. Smoking is allowed if you crack the window. All innocuous things, but really helpful info, I think, for deciding if you want to ride along. Gas will run around $100 per person (hopefully less, we'll see what gas prices are then).

If you've got any questions, just ask here, or email me: shamelessronfan at yahoo dot com

Rendevous and some convention fun! [25 Jul 2005|12:12am]

[ mood | anxious ]

I was enlightened to post this on this group by a former member of muggle_net (thanks by the way!):

I have "set up" (meaning it's still being smoothed over), a meeting for HP fans at Cedar Point for August 16. This would be a day where we could all have fun, ride some rides and just talk about HP. Let alone meet some new HP fans/friends! Tickets are on sale at Meijer for 34.95 at the Guest Service Desk. I work at Meijer Service Desk in Cascade, so I know that they are ten dollars cheaper if you buy them from Meijer as opposed to buying them at the gate. If you're interested just reply to the post or email me at elkenarmo@yahoo.com

Second thing:
I'm trying to set up a convention for next fall in Michigan. It would, though, be in Grand Rapids. I'm thinking either the Deltaplex or one of GVSU's halls that they use for an anime convention every year. If we get GVSU, we can have viewing rooms and "lecture" areas, plus space for vendors and guests. Problem is, I can't do it on my own. If anyone has any input what-so-ever, feel free to let me know. Steve, from Lexicon, is the director of our community players (my mum's the producer), so he could always be a possible guest. Plus people from TLC and/or Mugglenet.

So...what does everyone think?

Moderated Status [15 Jul 2005|11:27am]

Hi, if you're reading this, then you're aware that this community still exists and is on your friendslist. And likely, you already were aware of it. This community has gone on moderated status until 1 September, 2005. I will post through all non-spoiler posts, or posts that are properly marked as containing spoilers. If your post gets rejected, it was because of this. Also, until 1 September, 2005, anonymous commenting will be turned off as well. Last thing we want is a troll going through and leaving anonymous comments on other people's posts.

Until the end of the calendar year (31 December, 2005) all posts containing spoilers must be marked as such, with no spoilers outside the cut.

Please post responsibly!

HP Michigan is Back [07 May 2005|04:16pm]

[ mood | cheerful ]

Okay, now that things are gearing up again, and I've discovered more MIchigan HP fen, it made sense for me to reopen the community.

Anyways some goals are to plan meet-ups for Book 6 and for the GoF movie. Feel free to post anything that relates to both HP and to Michigan here.

Hi! You may or may not be familiar with meetup.com, but it is a site where you can be a member of a group who meets in an area near you to talk about whatever subject! The Harry Potter MeetUp looks like it needs members.

Hey, I'm Jossette. I live in Rochester Hills. Of course, I liked PoA. My high school graduation was the night of the 3rd, so I didn't get to see a midnight showing, but I showed house pride (slytherin, represent) at the 10:30 am showing on the 4th.

I have some bumper stickers I would trade someone for something, nothing big. A bit of candy, or something cheap like that.

Also, I run owl_rp, which is a roleplay through letter-writing. Its quite fun, and different.

If anyone would like to chat, my aim is Jaws on TV!

*laughs* [06 Jun 2004|05:48pm]

[ mood | amused ]

I read the review of PoA in the Detroit Free Press a couple of days ago, and the writer seemed to be having fun with it:

Gone is the wide-eyed adolescent in awe of the magic within and without him. That Harry has been replaced by something so mysterious, so unpredictable ... with contradiction that even grand old wizard Dumbledore... can't figure him out. In the world of muggles, just whispering the word for what Harry is now can strike fear in the heart of anyone who has been confronted by the beast Harry has become... a teenager.

So... what did you think of PoA, if you've gone to see it?
